” I wish I was a glow worm,
A glow worm’s never glum.
‘Cos how can you be grumpy
When the sun shines out your bum “
What an experience! If you have never seen a glow worm then this is your opportunity! We sent 2 of our Receptionists, Megan and Katya, to experience the amazing Waimarino Glow Worm Kayak Tours in Tauranga!
The group meet at Waimarino Adventure Park before climbing aboard a bus to take them to McLaren Falls. When they reached McLaren Falls, they were greeted with wine, juice and a cheese board! Which was a nice touch to make it more memorable.
After having a drink and filling their tummies with cheese and crackers, they jumped into the kayaks and headed up the river. On the way there the group took their time and got to enjoy the sun setting over the hills. Before entering the glow worm caves, the group was informed on some of the Maori Legends – such as the Taniwha. After story time they linked up to Katie (one of the staff members) to head slowly into the caves, and what a sight it was! A pitch-black area that had small lights hanging onto the rock walls. Katya and Megan were in awe at how amazing and beautiful these small creatures were! The staff on the tour then took their turns at telling the group a poem about glow worms and shared some entertaining insights on glow worms! After spending some time in the caves, the group started to kayak back to the vans. Megan said that the kayak back was absolutely beautiful as the moonlight lit up the water to show their path.
Megan and Katya both thought that the guides were super interactive, knowledgeable and made everyone on the tour feel welcome! Katya thought the whole trip was really well organised and thought that all the locations on the tour were stunning, including Waimarino Adventure Park – which she had never been to before. Megan enjoyed the experience and learnt something new about the area, even though she has lived there for years. Both Katya and Megan rated the tour a 10/10 and would recommend everyone to go and experience it!
