Life is better from the back of a horse! Huntaway Farms Horse Trekking offers beautiful treks over a working cattle farm and through native bush. Take in spectacular panoramic views as you enjoy the world from horseback.
Situated halfway between Tauranga and Rotorua, Megan and Rachael made the journey out to Huntaway Farms for a one hour horse trek. Megan had very limited horse experience whereas Rachael has been around horses for the last 12 or so years, so they were at very different levels!
Once they arrived, they had a full welcome party of 2 farm dogs, a pig, the horses… and of course Steve, the owner, and Vanessa, the guide. Steve talked them through all the horse safety, ensuring they were both familiar with all the stop and go signals they would need to get through the trek. After this, they mounted up and Vanessa checked through their gear to make sure they would both be comfortable and everything was in working order.
When everyone was ready to go, Vanessa took them out around the farm. Vanessa is incredibly easy-going and good to chat with! Rachael and Megan both felt safe as she talked them through where they were going and how to handle the horses as they went over rolling hills and through valleys. Megan commented on how peaceful she found the experience as a whole and said it was like a different kind of therapy!
Huntaway Farms offers an amazing time for all ages and levels of experience. For young children they are able to lead them through shorter treks, and for the more experienced riders there is the opportunity to pick up the pace as you explore the native bush and farmland.
